* First place Keystone Award, Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, for enterprise reporting (shared with Mike Argento, Frank Bodani, Paul Kuehnel and Scott Fisher) for “Killing the Chesapeake” series.

2020

All of the following were awarded by the MD/DC Press Association for Division C:

* First place, Investigative Reporting, for my uncovering the extent of the PFAS contamination in Chincoteague Island, VA, drinking water and the government’s poor public transparency.

* First place, Coronavirus Frontlines Reporting, for my reporting on COVID cases among employees of Delaware poultry processing plants.

* First place, Environmental Reporting, and second place for photo series, for my reporting on efforts to plant wild celery in the Nanticoke River.

2019

* First place, Virginia Press Association 2019, for health, science and environmental writing (non-daily group 1).

* First place, MD/DC Press Association 2019, Environmental Reporting (Division C) for this story about how changes in the U.S. industrial chicken industry meant to improve bird welfare could expand the industry’s environmental footprint.

* Second place, SPJ Colorado “Top of the Rockies” 2019, for politics general reporting with Pamela Johnson and Max Levy. This award was given to a body of work reporting on friction between our city’s mayor and the city council for the Loveland Reporter-Herald.

2018

* I was awarded the Jennifer Leonard Scholarship by Investigative Reporters and Editors to attend the IRE NICAR ’19 Conference in Newport Beach. The Jennifer Leonard award is reserved for “women of modest means who are journalism students or have less than three years of work experience.” By attending, I was introduced to a raft of skills I never had the opportunity to learn in j-school, including web scraping with Python, pivot tables and how to not feel like an imposter!

Under my leadership, the Collegian was honored by:

* An Online Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press, presented in October 2017 during the National College Media Convention in Dallas. For the Collegian, it was its first Pacemaker since 1995 and the second in the organization’s history.

* The Collegian was named a finalist for a 2017 EPPY Award, given by Editor & Publisher Magazine, in the category of “Best College/University Newspaper Website.”

* The Collegian was named Region 9 winner in the 2016 Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards for “Best Affiliated Website.” We were national finalists.

* The Collegian was ranked among the top 20 “Best College Newspapers” by the Princeton Review.
